One of the biggest concerns when people are thinking about converting their pet to a raw fed diet is the handling of raw meat. The whole issue of bacteria and contamination comes into play, but we are here to tell you that if handled with care, you have absolutely nothing to worry about!
At CRU we know you want the very best for your pampered pooch. That's why we have chosen to preserve our products in the most natural way - freezing. Our pet food is frozen as it inactivates any microbes, bacteria and yeasts present in raw meat, preserving it for a longer period of time. But, we often still need to be cautious when handling raw meat just as we do when we prepare our own raw meat at home for ourselves.
Below we've listed our top tips to keep in mind when handling raw dog food.
If you aren't going to feed your pet a whole pack in a day, simply store the remaining amount in an air-tight freezer bag to avoid cross contamination
Always use separate utensils when serving the raw dog food and avoid getting it on the kitchen counter by accident.
Always wash your hands with warm to hot water and soap before and after handling raw food
Wipe down all surfaces that have been in contact with the raw food.
Keep all raw products at the bottom of the freezer to avoid any cross contamination in case of service-cut.
Make sure you dispose of all food packages once you have emptied them so it doesn't come into contact with other food & recycle them into the yellow container.
Raw food must be defrosted in the cooler to avoid radical changes in temperature .
