How to get started with BARF cats
We all know that cats can be picky eaters.
Like us, the older they get and the longer they're in the same routine, the more difficult the change will be. But it's not impossible; you just have to be patient, and soon your cat will be eating the diet nature intended.
Remember that a cat is a strict carnivore , so a raw diet is the best option for them.
The transition to raw is easier if your cat already eats wet food, as they are at least accustomed to a more humid food.
We recommend that if your cat eats dry food, you transition in two phases: first from dry food to wet food and then from wet to raw food.
There's no problem in trying it right away; instinct may win and you'll love it the first time, but don't get discouraged if that doesn't happen.
We will introduce raw food gradually over the time needed.
There will come a time when you will eat more natural foods than processed foods and then you will be completely eating a raw diet.
- Cats prefer food at room temperature. Leave it out of the refrigerator for a while, so it will be more like the food they would find in nature.
- Don't leave food available all the time. Give him 20-30 minutes to eat, then remove it and store it in the refrigerator. He'll understand that he must eat or he'll go without.
- Give him variety from day one so he doesn't get used to just one type of meat.
- You may have heard about fasting for dogs, but cats should never fast!
