Pet-Friendly Halloween Recipes

Halloween is coming! You'll surprise your furry friend with our natural snacks, but sometimes, during this time, you just want to get cooking... Here are some simple recipes to get your dog or cat trying something new this holiday. But first, a few clarifications:

  • Although we generally avoid using grains in our furry friends' diet, today we're going to use oats and oat flour in our recipes. They won't provide much nutritional value for your furry friend, but neither will all the sweets we're going to eat today... It's a day, so enjoy!
  • These recipes are suitable for both dogs and cats, but since they don't contain any meat, cats tend to be more reluctant to try them.

Pumpkin and cinnamon sweets

Ingredients:

  • 2 half cups of whole oats
  • ½ cup pumpkin (depending on the size of your dog and how many treats you want to make)
  • ½ tablespoon of peanut butter (unsweetened)
  • 1 tablespoon of cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • Water
  • We will also need Halloween molds, they can be pumpkins, bats, bones, etc.

Steps:

  1. Mix all the ingredients in a large bowl and add the water little by little until the mixture becomes sticky. Be careful not to let it become too dry!
  2. Once the dough is ready, roll it out on a floured surface and cut it into shapes.
  3. While you're doing this, preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Once it's hot, bake the cookies for 20 minutes and... Voila, some delicious pumpkin cinnamon cookies!

Applesauce Cookies

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup of whole oats
  • Applesauce (You can make it yourself by boiling some apples and mashing them)
  • ⅓ cup beet puree (It's best to blend canned or vacuum-packed beetroot)
  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • 2 small teaspoons of yeast (optional)
  • Halloween molds: pumpkins, bats, bones, …

Steps:

  1. Mix all the ingredients until you have a smooth, lump-free dough. If it seems dry, add water little by little; if it's too runny, add a little flour.
  2. Once the dough is ready, you can cut it and bake the cookies at 180 degrees for 15 minutes.

Pumpkin ice cream

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup reduced-salt chicken broth
  • ½ cup pumpkin puree (You can make your own by mashing a cooked pumpkin that comes frozen or canned)
  • ¼ cup unsweetened natural yogurt
  • 1 teaspoon of honey
  • Halloween molds suitable for freezing

Steps:

  1. Mix the pumpkin puree and chicken broth.
  2. Pour the mixture into the molds, but not to the top, leaving a third of the mold empty.
  3. Leave this mixture in the freezer for a few hours until it is perfectly frozen.
  4. Mix the yogurt and honey in a container and add the mixture to the molds you had in the freezer.
  5. Put them back in the freezer for 1-2 hours or until completely frozen, and that's it! A cool ice cream for our four-legged friend!
