One of the biggest concerns when thinking about switching to a raw diet for your furry friend is having to deal with raw meat. This is where the whole issue of bacteria and contamination comes into play, but we're here to tell you that if you follow a few precautions, you have absolutely nothing to worry about! At CRU, we know you want the best for your furry friend. That's why we've chosen to preserve our products in the most natural way possible: freezing. Our pet food is frozen, as this inactivates the microbes, bacteria, and yeast present in raw meat and preserves it for a longer period of time. Even so, we must be cautious when handling raw meat, just as we do when we prepare our own meat at home. Below, we list our tips to keep in mind when handling raw food:
- If your furry friend doesn't finish a package in a day, simply store the remaining amount in a sealed bag or Tupperware container in the refrigerator to avoid cross-contamination.
- Always use different utensils than the ones you use for yourself when serving your furry friend's raw food and avoid leaving it on the kitchen counter.
- Wash your hands with warm or hot water and soap before and after handling raw foods.
- Clean all surfaces that have been in contact with raw foods.
- Store raw products at the back of the freezer to avoid cross-contamination in case of failure.
- When you've finished a package, give it a rinse and be sure to recycle it in the yellow bin.
Raw foods should be defrosted in the refrigerator to ensure smooth defrosting.
